Healthy Relationships (Redux)
By Barry Rudesill
I need to start out this blog by confessing something: It took me three whole weeks to buy the new Skillet album after it was released! That’s simply not acceptable in my world… (I really do like the band!)
As I sat down to listen to it (over and over again), I noticed two things immediately. First, the music is more “rock” than previous albums. (Maybe I’m getting old?) Second, the “slow songs” on this album are some of the best that I think Skillet has ever written!
Today, I simply wanted to share the lyrics to one of their new songs with you. And, like we used to say at the roller rinks, “This one is for the couples!”
“Forever Or The End”
Tell me what you're thinking
So I don't have to pretend
'Cause your mind's a million miles away
I'm a song that goes on
Way beyond the ozone
You treat me like a stranger at the gates
Why you got to make it so hard
Why you gotta push me so far
Just another weekend
Where we are barely speaking
Hoping that the silence keeps us safe
[Chorus]
How did I get here
Was it something I said
When you said forever
Is this what you meant
Is it wrong that I miss you
'Cause you never left
But the burden feels heavy
And I'm just so spent
Is this forever or is this the end
It's better to be known here
Than to be alone here
Who will be the first to make a move
You got me on the defense
'Cause just beyond my pretense
I'm afraid I'm disappointing you
I've still got some hope in my heart
But I don't even know where to start
[Chorus]
It's never over (It's never over)
It's never over (It's never over)
It's not too late to start it all again
It's never over (It's never over)
Let's start it over (Let's start it over)
It's not too late to start it all again
How did I get here
Was it something I said
When you said forever
Is this what you meant
Is it wrong that I miss you
'Cause you never left
But the burden feels heavy
And I'm just so spent
How did I get here
Was it something I said
When you said forever
Is this what you meant
Is it wrong that I miss you
'Cause you never left
But the burden feels heavy
And I'm just so spent
Is this forever or is this the end
If you can identify with these lyrics, if this describes you and your relationship, we want you to know that there IS hope! It’s going to take some effort, it’s going to take some conversations, and it’s going to take one of you making the first move! It’s not – it’s never! – too late to start over!
If you don’t know where to start, we would like to encourage you to try The Trek. If that’s not your style, find a Pastor, Counselor, or someone else who can help guide you through the journey that lies ahead. (You can also check out retreats for couples!) It can be quite a journey, so we encourage you to NOT do this alone!
Please know that we believe in you and we hope you enjoy the journey!
